Exceptions

Students participating in UC's Cooperative Education Program may encounter situations where they feel the need to request an exception or waiver from the established policies of the College of Cooperative Education and Professional Studies. To address these situations, a formal process has been established to submit and evaluate such requests through the Professional Standards Review Committee (PSRC).

Policy Summary

All students are required to adhere to the policies and procedures set by the College and the University. The specific guidelines for the Cooperative Education Program are detailed in the Co-op Student Handbook. If a student needs to deviate from these policies, they must seek approval through the process described below. Failure to follow this process may result in sanctions.

Requesting an Exception or Waiver

  1. Review the Policy:
  2. Consultation:
  3. Complete the Petition:
  4. Provide Documentation:
    • If your request is due to special circumstances, such as a medical issue or military obligation, you must provide appropriate documentation.
    • Include as much detail as possible to facilitate a quick decision.

Next Steps

  1. Confirmation and Meeting:
    • Upon submission, you will receive an email confirmation of your petition's receipt.
    • You will be informed about the date, time, and location of the meeting where your request will be reviewed. Attendance is recommended for complex cases that require significant discussion.
  2. Additional Documentation:
    • Depending on your situation, your co-op faculty advisor and/or the PSRC may request further documentation.
  3. Committee Review:
    • The PSRC will review your case according to their regular meeting schedule (typically twice per term).
    • You will be notified of the committee’s decision via email.
  4. Post-Decision:
    • Collaborate with your co-op faculty advisor to understand how the PSRC's decision impacts your participation in the co-op program, if applicable.

This structured approach ensures that all requests are handled fairly and efficiently, maintaining the integrity of the Cooperative Education Program while accommodating individual needs.
